The University Press of Florida will release Dr. Johnson's follow-up to his excellent Race Relations in the Bahamas, 1784-1834 this fall. Post-Emancipation Race Relations in the Bahamas should be available in November.
Whittington B. Johnson is professor emeritus in the department of history at the University of Miami.
Dr. Strachan's book Paradise and Plantation: Tourism and Culture in the Anglophone Caribbean contains an interesting discussion of the social effects of the "brochure discourse" that would characterize the Bahamas as paradise and Bahamians as the keepers of paradise.
Dr. Strachan has also written a wonderful coming of age tale set in the Bahamas. God's Angry Babies may be the best Bahamian novel.
